Your body is made up of 70 - 90 percent of water, depending on you age and constitution. The most important nutrient in your body is plain water. The quality of your tissues, including their performance and resistance to injury, is absolutely dependent on the quality and quantity of the water you drink.
Water is more important than food. Your body could lose half of your body's protein and nearly all of its fat and your can still survive, but you cannot live without water. Water is the essence of life. Water is important to healthy living for a healthy lifestyle.
Your body is a "water machine" for storage and transport. It needs water and minerals in order to function optimally. Even your brain is made up of 80 - 90 percent water. A five percent drop in body fluids may result in 25 percent loss of energy. Water is the foundation of health and wellness.
The major functions of water
Water serves important functions in your body, including the following:
| ˇ |
The healing power of water in maintaining optimum acid-alkaline level of your body chemistry
|
| ˇ |
The detoxification power of water in removing toxins from your body in the form or urination, perspiration
|
| ˇ |
The digestive power of water in the form of saliva and gastric juices, and the watery state in the colon
|
| ˇ |
The transport of oxygen, blood plasma, and nutrients to body cells
|
| ˇ |
The regulation of body temperature for optimum health
|
| ˇ |
The protection of joints and organs against injury and stress |
How much to drink
Given the pivotal role of water in healthy living for a healthy lifestyle, drink clean water, not from the tap or drinking fountain.
Always drink more water - not just eight 8-oz glasses a day. If you go to the bathroom less than four times a day, you are probably drinking too little.
Drink more water in the following conditions:
| ˇ |
You are on a high protein diet, or you eat a lot of foods high in sodium and sugar.
|
| ˇ |
You have joint pin, muscle pain, or lower back pain.
|
| ˇ |
Your urine is cloudy, or yellowish.
|
| ˇ |
You are breastfeeding.
|
| ˇ |
You have constipation.
|
| ˇ |
You are overweight.
|
| ˇ |
You are thirsty. But thirst may not be the best indicator: the thirst mechanism may already indicate dehydration. |
Remember alcohol and caffeine dehydrate you.
However, drinking too much water may not be such a good idea, especially if you are a runner or an athlete: you may be flushing out too much sodium from your body, thereby dangerously upsetting your electrolyte balance.
Always get clean water - not from beverages, fruit juices, or soups.

Good Feng Shui and Healthy Living

What "feng shui" is all about
"Feng shui" literally means "wind" and "water," which are two of the fundamental forms of energy controlling the universe. Wind is air, while water is dynamic, flowing nature.
"Feng shui" is how a building is placed in the landscape and how objects and spaces within a building are arranged and organized. "Feng shui" is an art and science for healthy living.
The principles of "feng shui"
"Feng Shu" is based on the Chinese thinking that the natural world is alive when energy (also known as "qi") is forever changing and moving. How you perceive your own wellness, and how you experience the world around you is contingent on the interaction between your own energy or "qi" and that of the environment around you. In other words, the energy of people and things around you affects your own internal life energy for better or for worse. Specifically, your own "qi" vibrates at the same frequency of the energy signals of the environment. Accordingly, your susceptibility to the energy vibration is both physical and psychological.
Good "feng shui"
The first and foremost principle of good "feng shui" is to protect yourself in your existing environment (given the realities of the world you are living in).
For good "feng shui," observe the following:
| ˇ |
Pursue healthy living for a healthy lifestyle
|
| ˇ |
Engage in physical activity for physical fitness. |
| ˇ |
Appreciate and enjoy the natural world.
|
| ˇ |
Declutter the living environment to attain balance and harmony in the home: e.g. balance of hard and soft materials, dark and light colors. |
Remember, the living environment affects your own "qi" and this is the essence of "feng shui."
